Season 3, Ep. 9: Effects
Friday Nov 21, 2025
Friday Nov 21, 2025
Reel Poppycock ponders the potential side-effects of covering the 1979 mega-meta-movie "Effects."
This episode is a KC hidden gem pick, and *hidden* certainly describes "Effects," because this film basically didn't exist to be seen anywhere from 1979 until a DVD release occurred in 2005. The *gem* aspect is more up for discussion, because plenty of poppycock was poppin' off all over this picture.
But "Effects" has some good going for it as well, and was well ahead of its time in 1979. The filmmakers came from the George A. Romero tree; with director Dusty Nelson, and stars John Harrison, Joseph Pilato, and special effects and make up guru Tom Savini all having worked with Romero before putting $55K together, and making their own movie about a movie within a movie, with maybe even another level of mediation added.
Do Ed, Trevor, and KC think the filmmakers succeeded on their passion project? You'll have to pop on this fresh Reel Poppycock episode to find out!

Friday Nov 14, 2025
Reel Poppycock brings a special guest into the studio, the immaculate Kat Fitzpatrick from the Fake Ass Bookclub Podcast, to discuss the 1986 James Cameron directed sci-fi / action classic "Aliens."
Sigourney Weaver's badass character of Ripley survived some wild events with a Xenomorph in "Alien," but will Kat survive her spot on the hot seat in the Poppycock Pop-Quiz?
Lots of insight, lots of laughs, and a customary group call-out of "f*ck colonialism" when discussion of the Colonial Space Marines is brought up when they go gung-ho trying to save the day.
So do like Kat taught Ed, KC, and Trevor; and employ some "Cult Leader Confidence" while you pop on this bombastic episode of Reel Poppycock, enjoy!

Do you enjoy action? Do you enjoy explosions? Do you enjoy Dolph Lundgren / Grace Jones orgy stories from the 80's?
Well then look no further than Reel Poppycock's episode on the 1990 movie "Dark Angel," also known as "I Come In Peace." Directed by Craig Baxley, this A-grade B-movie was brought to us courtesy of Ed, who chose it as his *Hidden Gem* flick-pick.
And hidden gem it was, as KC and Trevor had never even heard of this movie before Ed introduced it to them. Would their lives be forever changed for the better after watching Dolph Lundgren engage in extreme combat with an extra-terrestrial endorphin extractor?
You'll have to listen to this highly entertaining and explosive podcast episode to find out, cheers!

Season 3, Ep. 6: The Conjuring
Friday Oct 31, 2025
Friday Oct 31, 2025
Happy Halloween to all you horror-hounds and non-horror-hounds alike! Reel Poppycock rounds out their 2025 Spooky Season collection of movies with the first entry in what would become a multi B-B-Billion dollar franchise. That is correct, today we delve into the jump-scare jubilee "The Conjuring," released in 2013, and directed by James Wan.
K.C. did a lot of research into Ed & Lorraine Warren, the real life demonologist and clairvoyant couple who inspired these films. Are they just gifted grifters? Or is there something more menacing to their tales of supernatural scares?
Ed details some of his own real life spooky experiences, and his plans for N.I.G.H.T. Which will be the North Indianapolis Ghost Hunting Team. Ed also tests Trevor and K.C. on their knowledge of the actors who played famous movie monsters in a special Halloween edition of his Poppycock Pop-Quiz.
We've got Halloween hijinks, heaps of humor, and high praise for the cinematography of "The Conjuring," but maybe a bit of beef with some of the basic implications of what this film bases itself on, and its overall thematic moral message. So stop smashing pumpkins, and start smashing that subscribe button, since Spooky Season on Reel Poppycock is sure to cure your Halloween hangover. Enjoy!

Season 3, Ep. 5: The Blackening
Friday Oct 24, 2025
Friday Oct 24, 2025
Reel Poppycock's *Spooky Season* continues with 2023 horror comedy "The Blackening." Directed by Tim Story, and written by Tracy Oliver and Dewayne Perkins, "The Blackening" was an Ed choice for his Halloween month movie.
This film is a piece of sharp satire, while also being very aware of how referential it is to films that have come before. "The People Under the Stairs," "Scream 2," and "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" are all directly referenced in "The Blackening." But one key piece of homage may have been missed by the Poppycock crew: does the mind-reading / telepathy that people employ whilst playing Spades count as a mini-tribute to "The Shining?"
This podcast episode is filled with laughs, social commentary, and plenty of games in honor of a main theme of "The Blackening." KC even breaks out a new game they thought of: "Who's Your (Hoosier) Reel Movie Fan?" Where the game tests Ed and Trevor's respective knowledge of films in relation to the state of Indiana.
So fill up a nice glass with some King's Kool-Ayyy, and enjoy this episode on "The Blackening," the 2nd of 3 installments in this year's *Spooky Season* on Reel Poppycock.

Season 3, Ep. 4: The Devil's Rejects

Friday Oct 17, 2025
Welcome to the 2025 Spooky Season kickoff episode of Reel Poppycock! Are you ready to see a "Living Dead Girl," or do you prefer them "More Human than Human?" We're bound for bloody good times as we discuss writer/director Rob Zombie's 2005 film "The Devil's Rejects."
Each host will be choosing one horror film to discuss for this unit, and "The Devil's Rejects" was a Trevor pick. So will Trevor's tush get toasty as he is trivia tested by Ed on the Poppycock Pop-Quiz: Hot Seat Edition, where hardball heaters come in high and tight with extra-tough questions?
This episode also features some fan theories, a Dream-Cast segment, and enough tutti fruiti ice cream to satisfy even the most jaded film fan. Speaking of satisfying cream, Rosario Dawson's scene in "The Devil's Rejects" may have ended up on the cutting room floor, but it does exist as a deleted scene, and the Poppycock hosts throw her some love in their analysis.
So dig through the ditches, and burn through the witches, we slam in the back of Reel Poppycock's "Dragula," and enjoy the first installment in our horror film unit.

Season 3, Ep. 3: Jackie Brown
Friday Oct 10, 2025
Friday Oct 10, 2025
Reel Poppycock's love for "Jackie Brown" and Pam Grier is cranked to the MAX; as we CHERRY pick some of our favorite scenes, songs, and performances to analyze from the 1997 film. This is the third and final installment of our 3 film unit on director Quentin Tarantino.
Ed says "they don't make em like that anymore" when talking about the classic track "Across 110th St." by Bobby Womack, and KC replies "I don't think they're allowed to. It's like a state law." The soundtrack for this film is phenomenal, with diegetic use of sound when cassette tapes of The Brothers Johnson and The Delfonics are popped into the rides of Samuel L. Jackson's Ordell Robbie, and Robert Forster's Max Cherry respectively.
Trevor delves into some of the Hollywood royalty family history of Bridget Fonda, and lays out some of the classic performances of Robert DeNiro's storied career in the Reel Basic Facts.
Lots of laughs, and little Poppycock, in this episode; unless you want to count the reasoning for Max Cherry making his final decision in regards to Jackie Brown in the climax of the film. So stand ten toes down with us one last time for Tarantino, and enjoy this episode of Reel Poppycock!

Friday Oct 03, 2025
Friday Oct 03, 2025
Many podcasts may bark all day like little doggies, but Reel Poppycock brings the bite with the second of three films covered in our Quentin Tarantino unit that kicks off Season 3.
In this episode we discuss Tarantino having a bit part as an Elvis impersonator on an old episode of Golden Girls, while also delving into how serious one must be with their method-acting in order to ride around in the trunk of a car to do research for a role.
Ed and KC bring up Mr. Pink's tipping practices, and then discuss how racial stereotypes involving perceived tipping have effected their lives as black individuals in the USA. Ed also has a fun fan theory on what happens to Steve Buscemi's character of Mr. Pink after the events of "Reservoir Dogs."
Trevor details a "Brief History of the Heist Genre' in the Reel Basic Facts, and all three hosts get to create their *Dream Heist Team* in a special version of our normal DreamCast segment. KC even has an "Oops All Ovaries" edition of their DreamCast since "Reservoir Dogs" is such a blatantly masculine movie.

Friday Sep 26, 2025
Friday Sep 26, 2025
Welcome to Season 3 of Reel Poppycock, or as KC belts out in our intro: "We're back mutha-fluffers!"
Season 3 opens with a three episode unit covering writer & director Quentin Tarantino, and this episode is on the 2012 *Southern* masterpiece: "Django Unchained."
Ed has often said that Tarantino is one of his favorite filmmakers, but how does he feel about sweet potatoes? Yams are briefly brought up, but also how some stuff never completely changes. America has come a long way since the pre-Civil War time period depicted in Django Unchained, but if you think remnants of that bigotry has not been passed on through the generations, then you've just not been paying attention.
Stars Jamie Foxx and Christoph Waltz provided dynamite performances, and receive lots of love from the Reel Poppycock crew. Ed, KC, and Trevor share some of their favorite quotes during the "Who Said It?" game, and rank the film during the Poppycock Round-Up segment.
So: "Hey, Little Troublemakers," please join us for Season 3 of Reel Poppycock, and enjoy!
