Season 4, Ep. 3: Sorry to Bother You
Friday Mar 06, 2026
Friday Mar 06, 2026
Finishing up our celebration of Black Filmmakers for February, Reel Poppycock features the phenomenal film "Sorry To Bother You" as the pick to round out our unit. Written and directed by Boot Riley, 2018's "Sorry To Bother You" is a surrealist and scathing anti-capitalist masterpiece of movie making.
The Poppycock crew delves deep into the hidden meanings behind Detroit's iconic earrings, and then delve even deeper into tossing tons of praise on Tessa Thompson, the actress who embodied Detroit so dynamically. So dynamically that Ed may have even been daydreaming about barb-wire-wrapped baseball bats towards a character, played by Steven Yeun, trying to "Squeeze" into Detroit's affections.
KC gets to discuss David Cross and Patton Oswalt, some comedians they are quite fond of, who provide plenty of comical satire with their voiceover work in "Sorry To Bother You." We also bring back one of our favorite segments, DreamCast. Trevor may have picked the flick to cover this week, but he can't choose LaKeith Stanfield in his DreamCast, because it is a Lakeith Stanfield starring film.
So don't be bothered by the typical capitalist propaganda piped into you ear-holes, and pop on this Reel Poppycock podcast episode on "Sorry To Bother You" instead. Enjoy!

Season 4, Ep. 2: Fear of a Black Hat
Friday Feb 27, 2026
Friday Feb 27, 2026
Even 48 episodes in, Reel Poppycock can break into uncharted territory, as this week's installment on "Fear of a Black Hat" marks the first mockumentary the crew has covered so far. Hitting the film festival circuit in early 1993, the Rusty Cundieff written and directed "Fear of a Black Hat" does to hip-hop what "This Is Spinal Tap" did to heavy metal back in the 80's.
This episode was a KC pick to continue our celebration of Black Filmmakers, and what a wonderful hidden gem of a choice it was! N.W.A., Public Enemy, LL Cool J, Queen Latifah, Salt N Pepa, PM Dawn, MC Hammer, The Fat Boys, Vanilla Ice and more all receive the lampoon treatment from Rusty Cundieff, who'd go on to direct the bulk of the series of Chappelle's Show. Non-stop jokes, clever social commentary, and high-quality music video parodies have turned "Fear of a Black Hat" into a cult classic over the years.
Ed says "good gravy the grift was always strong with that one" when discussing Vanilla Ice, and his goofy clone Vanilla Sherbet depicted in "Fear of a Black Hat." And as the only olive-complected ma f*cka of the crew, Trevor is just thankful that N.W.H. aren't looking for a new manager.
So grab your hats, grab yo junk, and pop on this piping-hot new Reel Poppycock episode, enjoy!

Season 4, Ep. 1: Higher Learning
Friday Feb 20, 2026
Friday Feb 20, 2026
Welcome back film friends! That's right, Reel Poppycock returns ripping & roaring out the gate with the premier episode of Season 4. Ed chose the 1995 movie "Higher Learning," written and directed by John Singleton, to kick off our celebration of Black Filmmakers. As KC says, Black History Month is *every* month of the year, so our celebration will certainly push past the end of February.
Boasting plentiful prophetic plot points, and an all-star cast mainly near the beginning of their careers, "Higher Learning" is a powerful and poignant piece of cinema.
Reel Poppycock takes a page out of Singleton's book with some scathing social commentary of their own, but it's not all doom and gloom, as the crew still has games, analyses, insights, and laughs galore. Trevor even tries to do his namesake Busta Rhymes (born Trevor George Smith Jr.) proud with a little tribute to one of most energetic MCs in history.
Thanks for tuning in and checking out Episode 1 of Season 4 of Reel Poppycock, enjoy!

Friday Jan 16, 2026
Friday Jan 16, 2026
You wanted Poppycock for our Season 3 finale?
Well you'll have *plenty* of Poppycock to point out in the piping-hot pile of pure cinematic paraquat that is "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets."
Directed by dirtbag Luc Besson, and featuring one of the least charismatic protagonists in the history of film, plus a complete lack of chemistry between the two romantic leads, "Valerian..." was chosen by KC to ensure that our proper Poppycock quota would be reached by Season's end.
What this episode proves is that you don't have to enjoy the film we're covering in order to have a blast with us as we pick it apart. Sometimes you don't even need to have seen the flick. So let the Poppycock ooze through you as you partake in this scathing Season finale, cheers!

Reel Poppycock has your pigskin dreams on lock, as we cover the 1986 football film "Wildcats." Starring Goldie Hawn as the new coach of the inner city Central High football team, "Wildcats" also features the first big screen appearances of both Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson.
This flick-pick from deep in the vault has been near and dear to Ed's heart for over 30 years, and he introduced "Wildcats" to both KC and Trevor for their first viewings. Would the pervasive presence of plenty of pure Poppycock persist in pulling all the proper nostalgia strings for Ed? You'll just have to listen to find out!

Whether you get knee deep in the Christmas spirit, or have a bit of Scrooge, or the Grinch, or Ed's x-mas sweater of Oscar the Grouch saying "Bah Humbug!" in you, there is something seasonally splendid to satiate your ear holes in Reel Poppycock's episode on the 2003 film "Bad Santa."
Directed by Terry Zwigoff, and starring Billy Bob Thornton, Tony Cox, Lauren Graham, John Ritter, and Bernie Mac, this ain't your mammy and pappy's Christmas flick.
KC, as the most technically inclined member of the Poppycock crew, provides plenty of insight into the intricacies of the heist related hijinks of the movie. While Ed ponders the age old question of: "is Billy Bob actually sexy?"
Plenty of Poppycocks get plopped upon this picture, but does Trevor too terribly try to defend this tawdry and timely Christmas classic?

Season 3, Ep. 12: The Big Lebowski
Friday Dec 12, 2025
Friday Dec 12, 2025
Unzip your Brunswick bowling ball bag, drop off the "ringer" filled with your dirty undies, grab a couple oat-sodas, and get ready to roll with Reel Poppycock as we wrap up our 3 film unit on the Coen Brothers by discussing their highly quotable masterpiece of a movie: "The Big Lebowski." Set in 1991, but released in 1998, and packed with wild situations and wonderful weirdos coming out of the woodwork; it did take some time for this film to achieve the cult classic status it currently enjoys.
Ed may not enjoy The Eagles, but he does admit his song "Mystery Woman" may have had some influence from one of The Eagles back catalogue. Ed also described "The Big Lebowski" as akin to the film version of "Seinfeld," making it a movie about nothing; but he insists that is not always a bad thing, especially if we enjoy hanging out with these crazy characters.
Jackie Treehorn may make one hell of a "Caucasian," but KC was not careful with their beverage here, man, by creating the "White Russian - Vermont Style." (Just add some authentic Vermont Maple Syrup to your Caucasian to perk up your taste buds.) And while KC may not prefer their In-N-Out Burger "animal style," they are a Dudist Priest, so they take pride in abiding by the ethos of The Dude.
Trevor's art has rarely been described as "vaginal," but he did enjoy Bunny Knutsen and her co-star in the beaver picture "Logjammin." Almost as much as he enjoyed dressing up as The Dude for Halloween a couple years ago, with his wife Emilee rocking a hot Maude Lebowski outfit. The real gift for Trevor, though, was getting to discuss one of his favorite films with his co-hosts for his birthday flick-pick. Can he survive the Poppycock Hot-Seat, or will his ice-cube-cheeks melt under the heat of the hardball quiz questions? You'll just have to listen to find out!
All of that fun stuff and more, (but no "funny stuff" as the Nihilists would say) on Reel Poppycock's episode on "The Big Lebowski," enjoy!

Friday Dec 05, 2025
Friday Dec 05, 2025
Unpack your cowboy hats, dust off your silenced shotguns, and get ready for Reel Poppycock's episode covering the 2007 film "No Country for Old Men." Based on the novel of the same name by Cormac McCarthy, this is the 2nd installment in our 3 film unit covering movies directed, written, produced, and edited by the Coen Brothers.
Does Javier Bardem's character of Anton Chigurh represent the best depiction of a sociopathic killer in the history of film? How much does $2 million dollars in tightly packed wads of $100 bills actually weigh? Does Carla Jean Moss intentionally goad Llewelyn Moss into a trailer park plow session with her big talk? Is this film really as freakin' funny as the Poppycock hosts say it is?
If you want to find out the answers to these questions, and so much more, then give a listen to this comical and insightful new episode of Reel Poppycock. Cheers!
